Displacement is a quantity related to the movement of the position of the object in the process of motion. The measurement of displacement involves a wide range of methods. Small displacement is usually measured by strain type, inductance type, differential transformer type, eddy current type, Hall sensor, and large displacement is usually measured by induction synchronizer, grating, capacitive grating, magnetic grating and other sensing technology. The grating sensor is widely used in machine tools, measuring instruments and other industries because of its advantages of easy digitization, high precision (the highest resolution can reach nanometer level at present), strong anti-interference ability, no man-made reading error, easy installation and reliable use.

Principle of Balluff displacement sensor

The function of Balluff displacement sensor is to convert linear mechanical displacement into electrical signal. In order to achieve this effect, the variable resistance slideway is usually fixed at the fixed position of the sensor, and the different resistance values are measured by the displacement of the slideway on the slideway. The sensor slideway is connected to a steady-state DC voltage, allowing a small current to flow through the microampere, and the voltage between the slider and the start is proportional to the length of the slider movement. Using the sensor as a divider can minimize the requirement for the accuracy of the total resistance of the slideway, because the resistance variation caused by the temperature change will not affect the measurement results.
